The NCAA’s annual Army vs. Navy game is headed to Massachusetts this Saturday as the 5-6 Black Nights will take on the 5-6 Midshipmen from Foxborough’s Gillette Stadium.

Here are the betting odds for the game, according to our exclusive wagering partners at FanDuel Sportsbook:

Odds – Army vs. Navy

Spread: Army -2.5

Moneyline: Army -152/Navy +126

Total: O/U 28.5

Storylines

Saturday’s Army/Navy game in Foxborough is going to be an incredible environment. Not only is it a) a standalone game and b) the home of ESPN’s College Game Day this weekend, but it’s one of the biggest rivalries in all of sports. Don’t believe me? Just ask Army head coach Jeff Monken:

“I don’t think there’s a better rivalry in sports, to be honest with you,” the Black Knights head coach said at last week’s Army/Navy media day from Gillette Stadium. “There’ll be conference championships next week, the National Championship Game is coming up, rivalry weekend in college football last Saturday, and those are great games. But I don’t think any of them compare to the Army-Navy Game.”

“…Every competitor on the field next weekend,” Monken continued. “And every one of their classmates sitting in the stands made a pledge to serve our country. They’re willing to pay the ultimate price for everybody that watches the game.”

“It’s really difficult to describe,” Navy head coach Brian Newberry when speaking on the rivalry. “Just the the scene, the energy, the pageantry, just the pride that you have being a part of the game. There’s nothing like it… All 11 guys playing as hard as they do, and the pride they play with and playing for each other, it’s a special day and there’s really nothing like it.”

Patriots long snapper Joe Cardona, a Navy alum and current Lieutenant in the U.S. Naval Reserve, said on Tuesday that playing in this game is on par with the Super Bowl as the biggest game he’s ever played in. He confirmed he’ll be in attendance on Saturday.

It’s going to be quite the day.

Predictions and Picks

As for the game itself, the UNDER hit in 16 (!!) straight contests before last year’s overtime thriller in Philly. An incredible feat that I believe will hit again on Saturday in Foxborough.

I like Navy to not only cover the 2.5-point spread, but win outright in yet another historic matchup with Army.

Score: Navy 13 – Army 10

Side: Navy +2.5

Total: UNDER 28.5

With just two weeks left in the NCAA football regular season, it’s essentially turned into a two-horse race for who will win the Heisman Trophy between quarterbacks Caleb Williams and CJ Stroud.

However, with a dominant performance and a win against Ohio State this coming Saturday, there’s still a chance that Michigan running back Blake Corum could run away with the award. Here are the odds to win according to our partners at BetOnline.ag:

Odds to Win 2022 Heisman Trophy

Caleb Williams              -130

CJ Stroud                       +110

Blake Corum               +1400

Here’s a case for each player to win it:

Caleb Williams

USC’s Caleb Williams has been outstanding in 2022. The sophomore has thrown for 3,480 yards, 33 touchdowns, and only three interceptions while also adding 7 touchdowns on the ground.

A win against Notre Dame this coming Saturday could wrap up the award for Williams who currently holds -130 odds to do so. A loss to the Irish, however, would jolt CJ Stroud to the front of the board.

CJ Stroud

Ohio State’s CJ Stroud has also been sensational this season. He’s thrown for 2,991 yards, 35 TDs, 4 INTs, leads the nation in QBR at 89.7, and most of all has led the Buckeyes to an 11-0 record thus far.

The sophomore QB was destined to win the award in 2021 before Alabama’s Bryce Young ran away with the award, and has a chance to add Heisman Trophy Winner to his resume prior to entering the 2022 NFL Draft.

Blake Corum

Rounding out BetOnline’s Heisman contenders is Michigan running back Blake Corum. Corum has paced the Wolverine’s offense this season with 1,457 rushing yards, 5.9 yards per attempt, and 18 rushing touchdowns – and with a win against Ohio State on Saturday could become the first running back to win the Heisman since Derrick Henry in 2015.

My Pick: This is Caleb Williams’ award to lose right now. He’s hot at the perfect time and could realistically get USC into the College Football Playoff for the first time in its existence. I almost bet it at +1200 just a week ago, so -130 is the best you’ll probably get moving forward.

The Boston College Eagles have themselves a quarterback.

Phil Jerkovec, a redshirt junior, announced last December that he would not yet declare for the NFL draft – instead opting to come back to Chestnut Hill for another year:

Jerkovec, who transferred from Notre Dame and has dealt with injury throughout his lengthy college career, seems to finally have the stability he needs heading into his third year at BC.

The Eagles went 6-6 last year and were supposed to play in the Military Bowl against East Carolina – but the game was canceled due to COVID. I wrote a preview on the game (read HERE), and naturally picked BC to win and predicted Jerkovec would have a day.

The kid is good, and according to our exclusive gambling partners at BetOnline.ag, he’s in the conversation to be the number one overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Here are their odds:

Number One Overall Pick – 2023 NFL Draft

CJ Stroud                                    +200

Bryce Young                                +250

Will Anderson                             +300

Paris Johnson                             +900

Tyler Van Dyke                          +1600

Jaxon Smith-Njigba                  +1600

Phil Jerkovec                            +1600

Spencer Rattler                          +1800

The first two names on this list, CJ Stroud (+200), and Bryce Young (+250), are the two best quarterbacks in college football. Stroud has the shortest odds to win the Heisman according to BetOnline, with +325 odds to win the trophy. Young is third at 7/1.

Young’s teammate, linebacker Will Anderson, is the first non-QB on the list with 3/1 odds to go number one. Anderson is the nucleus of the Alabama defense. He led the nation in sacks last season with 17.5 and recorded 57 solo tackles.

South Carolina’s Spencer Rattler is, shockingly, on this list. The former Oklahoma Sooner was projected to be the number 1 pick last season – but spiraled miserably with Lincoln Riley in Norman before being benched for Caleb Williams. Taking Rattler at 18/1 is charity.

I ultimately think Bryce Young at +250 is the best bet here. The Crimson Tide are due for a national championship, and he’ll be in the spotlight every week.

Tips to Get Collegiate Sports Scholarship https://www.clnsmedia.com/tips-to-get-collegiate-sports-scholarship/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=tips-to-get-collegiate-sports-scholarship Mon, 30 Nov 2020 09:47:33 +0000 https://www.clnsmedia.com/?p=80235 For young athletes, going to one of the American universities is a great opportunity to arrange their lives. For young athletes, going to one of the American universities is a great opportunity to arrange their lives. The main advantage of education in the United States is the opportunity to receive an excellent academic education and continue to excel in your chosen sport. In American universities, there is no need to choose between study and sports career. Here, these aspects are harmoniously combined and have the name “double career path”, which gives a great advantage in the future, because a graduate can continue his sports career and, if desired, subsequently start working in the received additional specialty at the university.

  1. Age

The American Collegiate Sports Associations, which oversee university competitions, do not formally impose age restrictions on athletes. However, in practice, it is rather difficult for a student over 23 years old to obtain a scholarship. The optimal age of the applicant is from 15 to 20 years. We highly recommend that you start looking for a scholarship 2 years before graduation or 1-2 years of study at a Russian university – this significantly increases the chances of finding the best option and calmly preparing for passing all the necessary tests.

  1. Academic progress

Students need to start preparing an application for a sports scholarship 18-24 months before the competition. The main documents that the application includes:

  • CV, resume or biography describing your sporting path and achievements;
  • motivation letter;
  • confirmation of sporting merit – diplomas, medals;
  • recommendations from your coaches and other mentors (school teachers, any teachers in additional subjects that know you well, employees of volunteer organizations, etc.);
  • cover-letter or essay (to perform this item flawlessly, you can use the services of professionals. You can find writing help for students on websites like EssayShark.com)

Find out the details of the application and the full list of documents at the college that provides the scholarship and be very careful when registering and sending it to several places – the requirements for documents can, and most likely will, be somewhat different.

  1. Sports achievements

Of course, the main criterion for the selection of student-athletes is their athletic achievements, reflected in a special athletic resume. Also, playing sports at the university opens up excellent prospects for professional implementation for a graduate. After graduation, an athlete who has proven himself in intercollegiate competitions can continue his sports career or choose a coaching job.

  1. Divisions

There are three divisions in total. The first and the second are large universities with a large number of students and considerable scholarship budgets. They provide funds to support successful students in sports. The third is small, not very popular educational institutions, whose sports funding is small. It is easiest to get into the universities of the third division. Due to their low popularity, there are few up-and-coming athletes there. It will also be easier to enter a not the most popular university of the first division than to enter a university that is among the thirty best in the ranking from the second.

  1. Recruiter

The athletic scholarship is awarded by the university sports department, in which the sports director and coaches have the main role and the final word. Thus, a recruiter must go to a game or performance – a person who attends games or performances to find talented students in sports.

  1. Choose suitable conditions

You should go to the college of your choice and speak with financial aid, sports department, or sport of your choice to find out what opportunities a particular institution has to offer. The rules that apply to you will largely depend on the sport, the type of college you will attend and the level you hope to play at. Many additional factors will affect eligibility for certain financial support, including the state of residence, academic performance, anticipated college degree, and many other personal factors that may be relevant to your athletic and academic success.

  1. Make a list of universities

Admissions to universities for athletes are conducted under the auspices of one of three associations:

  • National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)
  • National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA)
  • National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

Make a list of universities where you would like to study. This can be done easily by going to the NCAA, NAIA, or NJCAA websites, clicking on the unit you want, and then under the “Participating Universities” section.

  1. Increase your chances

Be realistic about your expectations and take action to improve your chances of earning an athletic scholarship in the United States. Such steps include:

  • Academic excellence – upgrade your grades if you want to be able to enroll in an American university;
  • Liaising with coaches in programs that may interest you;
  • Participation in summer schools / volunteering (especially abroad);
  • Create your own YouTube channel and other online/social networks to showcase your talents.

  1. Find out all the nuances

The scholarship does not usually cover all of the student’s tuition and living expenses. For only six sports at Division I universities, an athlete can receive full funding. These are football, basketball (for men and women), gymnastics (for women), tennis and volleyball.

  1. Select faculty

In American educational institutions, there is no specialty “sports”. Representing his college in competitions, the student must still choose to study any scientific direction. The scholarship holder is not limited in the choice of disciplines, but do not forget to study.
