CINCINNATI — It wasn’t pretty but it was complementary.

Joe Burrow tossed a pair of first-half touchdowns and the Bengals defense intercepted two passes to lead the Bengals (3-3) past the visiting Seattle Seahawks (3-2), 17-13, Sunday before 66,385 at Paycor Stadium.

The Cincinnati defense intercepted Geno Smith twice, sacked the quarterback four times and stopped Seattle twice inside the Bengals 10 in the final three minutes to seal the win.

In all, the Bengals defense faced four red zone chances after Seattle’s game-opening TD drive. They allowed just a field goal in those four chances.

“We have a lot of faith in our defense, especially when they have to go out there — we put them out there in tough spots,” Taylor said. “To have those four low red (zone) stops that they had, they held them to a field goal, two turnovers on downs and a turnover. Exceptional job by our defense. They give you a lot of confidence. It’s a stressful situation. Seattle has a great team. They did a great job in some plays, moving the ball down there. But at the end day, we just have tremendous confidence that our defense is going to figure it out and they did. And they had a huge stop there at the end.”

Burrow finished 24-of-35 for 185 yards and two touchdowns while Smith finished 27-of-41 passing for 323 yards for the Seahawks which had its three-game win streak snapped. Mike Hilton and Cam Taylor-Britt intercepted passes for the Bengals defense, which saved the day after the Bengals offense went ice cold.

“Yes, our defense stepped up big in the second half. Offense was really good in the first half; we were horrible in the second half. So, we just have to be able to put together a complete game,” Burrow said.

Seattle took the game’s opening drive and marched down the field in 11 plays, covering 75 yards. The Bengals appeared ready to hold the Seahawks to a field goal in the red zone but safety Nick Scott was call for pass interference on Tyler Lockett in the end zone.

Kenneth Walker III went in on the next play from the Cincinnati 1 and Seattle led, 7-0.

The Bengals answered with one of their best drives of the season, going 69 yards in 13 plays. Burrow converted two third downs and benefited from a Seattle offsides on fourth-and-one following a Joe Mixon dropped pass on third down.

Burrow connected with Tyler Boyd three times on the drive for 22 yards, including an 8-yard in-slant for a touchdown.

The Bengals defense forced a three-and-out on the next series, highlighted by a key pass breakup by Cam Taylor-Britt who stuck his left arm in and knocked the ball out of the arms of DK Metcalf in front of the Bengals’ sideline.

Burrow remained red-hot on the next series, highlighted by a 31-yard completion to Ja’Marr Chase over the middle. Six plays later, Burrow drifted to his left and fired a strike to rookie Andrei Iosivas for a 3-yard touchdown and a 14-7 Cincinnati lead.

It was the first career touchdown for the rookie out of Princeton and came on Iosivas’ 24th birthday. And Burrow made sure to retrieve the game ball to mark the occasion.

Joe Burrow started the game 17-of-19 for 139 yards and two touchdowns. Burrow completed 15 straight passes during one stretch of the first half.

A Jason Myers 55-yard field goal narrowed Cincinnati’s lead to 14-10 at the half.

Burrow threw a ball short for Chase on the opening drive of the second half that was picked off by Tre Brown, giving Seattle the ball at its 31. The Seahawks drove to the Cincinnati 10 before Mike Hilton intercepted a Geno Smith pass at the Cincinnati 3.

Seattle forced a punt and was able to drive to the Cincinnati 5. But Cam Taylor-Britt broke up a Smith pass for Tyler Lockett in the end zone and Seattle settled for a 23-yard Myers field goal to cut Cincinnati’s lead to 14-13.

Seattle lost wide receiver Jake Bobo when he was hit by Dax Hill late in the third quarter and went into concussion protocol.

The Bengals lost their starting left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. to a groin injury late in the third quarter. Cody Ford filled in for Brown for the remainder of the game.

GLENDALE, Ariz. — That was more like it.

Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase turned back the clock and put on a badly-needed, confidence-boosting show Sunday.

Burrow threw three touchdown passes to Chaseq to lead the visiting Cincinnati Bengals (2-3) past the Arizona Cardinals (1-4), 34-20, Sunday at State Farm Stadium.

Burrow finished 36-of-46 for 317 yards and the three touchdowns.

Chase set a new Bengals’ record for catches in a game with 15 on 19 targets and totaled 192 yards, shattering the old mark of 13 held by Carl Pickens in Oct. 1998.

Evan McPherson also had a pair of 40-yard field goals and Cam Taylor-Britt returned an interception for a touchdown for the Bengals, who had their best offensive day of the season and won for the first time in three road games this season.

The Bengals and Burrow started fast.

Burrow was 7-for-7 for 56 yards on the opening drive, including a 2-yard TD pass to Ja’Marr Chase in the back of the end zone on third down. Burrow, who has shown limited mobility in his first four games, displayed plenty of agility on his first drive.

The Bengals drove down the field again on their second possession but had to settle for a 40-yard Evan McPherson field goal after Burrow was sacked by Kevin Strong for a 15-yard loss on third down.

The Cardinals began their comeback in the second quarter when Joshua Dobbs connected on a 25-yard pass to Marquise Brown, beating Jalen Davis in coverage. The Cardinals then took the lead in the second quarter when Dobbs hit tight end Zach Ertz for a 14-10 Arizona lead.

Joe Mixon couldn’t gain a yard on third and fourth downs from the Arizona 1 and the Cardinals took over.

Cam Taylor-Britt intercepted Joshua Dobbs on second and 10 from the Arizona 1 and returned it 11 yards to put the Bengals back on top, 17-14, at the half. It was Dobbs’ first interception this season in 137 attempts.

The Bengals took a 24-14 lead when Burrow connected with a sprinting Chase for 63 yards and a touchdown on their first drive of the third quarter.

The Cardinals took advantage of sloppy tackling by the Bengals defense to pull within 24-20 on their next possession on Emeri Demercado’s 11-yard touchdown run around the left end.

But the Bengals answered with an 83-yard drive, capped by Burrow’s third touchdown of the day, a scramble on second down and a throw to the back of the end zone to Chase, who was running along the end line.

The Bengals came out on defense and generated a pair of three-and-outs. Trey Hendrickson had a sack while Jordan Battle had a nice pass break up over the middle.

Burrow had his best start of the season, completing his first 10 passes for 84 yards. Most importantly, he showed his best mobility of the season. His best move came on third-and-goal on the opening drive when he eluded a pass rusher, slid backwards and then fired a dart to Ja’Marr Chase in the back of the end zone for a 7-0 lead.

The good:

Joe Burrow mobility.
Ja’Marr Chase catching big plays.
DJ Turner fills in for Chido Awuzie.
Cam Taylor-Britt pick-6.
Fourth down stop by Nick Scott and Germaine Pratt.

The bad:
Can’t convert third and fourth down at the Arizona 1.
Tackling throughout the game, especially on Arizona’s third quarter touchdown.
Nick Scott (benched temporarily) pass defense

NASHVILLE — It’s time to be very worried about the Bengals.

Through four weeks, they aren’t who we thought they were. Sunday was a thorough embarrassment put forth by the men in Stripes.

Derrick Henry ran through the Bengals defense for 122 yards on 22 carries and a touchdown as Tennessee blew out the Bengals, 27-3, at Nissan Stadium. The Bengals totaled a measly 211 yards on the hot afternoon and looked totally outclassed on both sides of the ball.

Adding salt to the wound was a rib injury to Tee Higgins in the first half that knocked him out for the game. Starting cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt left in concussion protocol in the third quarter and did not return.

The Titans scored 21 points in the second quarter to take a 24-3 halftime lead.

The Titans then ran off over ten minutes on a drive to open the second half and capped it with a field goal to make it 27-3. The Bengals drove past midfield but Joe Burrow was strip-sacked and the Titans recovered. Game over.

One week after gaining just six first downs, the Titans rebounded with a balanced attack against a Bengals defense that wilted in the 85-degree heat with missed tackles and blown assignments.

But in truth the Titans put this game away with a gimmick TD when Henry took a snap in the wildcat and tossed a 2-yard TD jump pass to Josh Whyle of the Titans with 10 seconds left in the second quarter.

Already up, 24-3, the Titans opened the third quarter with a 15-play drive that consumed over 10 minutes of the clock, aided by Dax Hill’s unsportsmanlike conduct call on third down when it appeared the Bengals’ defense was ready to get off the field on a three-and-out. Nick Folk’s second field goal put Tennessee up, 27-3.

The Bengals were off to a promising start when Joe Burrow called tails and won the toss. The Bengals took the ball and drove right down the field. Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins each had two catches for 26 and 19 yards respectively.

The Bengals drove to the Titans 10 but the Bengals couldn’t punch it in. Additionally, Burrow was lucky he didn’t get picked on second down when Amani Hooker stepped in front of Higgins and nearly picked off a pass that could’ve resulted in a pick-6 for Tennessee.

The Bengals ran it with Mixon on the next play down to the Titans 3 and had to settle for a 21-yard Evan McPherson field goal. Mixon was a force in the first quarter, running it five times for 33 yards for a 6.6 yard average.

Derrick Henry was a force for Tennessee on their first drive, carrying it six times but only for 21 yards. He had one run of 11 yards and just 10 on the other five. The Titans converted a fourth down as Tennessee moved to the Cincinnati 24. But a split sack from BJ Hill and Trey Hendrickson pushed the ball back to the 35 and forced the Titans to settle for a 53-yard Nick Folk field goal.

The Titans started bringing more pressure in the second quarter and got to Joe Burrow, including a sack and two quarterback hits and landed Burrow flat on his back.

As sharp as the Bengals offense looked on the first drive, amassing 71 yards, it was abysmal for the rest of the half.

The Bengals offense collapsed and the Titans took full advantage with drives of 78 and 73 yards. The Bengals were gashed by play action passes from Ryan Tannehill and runs from Derrick Henry, including a 29-yard run in which he bounced off Germaine Pratt and ran into the end zone for a 17-3 Tennessee lead with 3:58 lead left in the second quarter.

CINCINNATI — It felt like pulling teeth but the Bengals finally got their first taste of victory Monday night.

Joe Burrow played through a right calf strain to complete 26-of-49 passes for 259 yards while Ja’Marr Chase caught 12 passes for 141 yards to lead the Cincinnati Bengals (1-2) past the visiting Los Angeles Rams(1-2), 19-16, Monday night before a sellout crowd of 65,158 at Paycor Stadium.

Joe Mixon ran for 65 yards on 19 carries and a touchdown while Chase’s 12 passes fell one shy of Carl Pickens team record from 1998.

Trey Hendrickson two of Cincinnati’s sacks of Matthew Stafford as the Bengals held the Rams to 1-for-11 on third down.

Logan Wilson intercepted Matthew Stafford twice and the Bengals sacked Rams quarterback six times as the Rams were held to 1-for-11 on third down.

Stafford finished 18-of-33 for 269 yards with two interceptions and a late touchdown. The Rams were held to three field goals from Brett Maher before Stafford found Tutu Atwell for a late touchdown.

The onside kick was recovered by the Bengals.

Cincinnati kicker Evan McPherson converted four of his five chances on the night, missing only a 56-yard kick in the first half.

The Bengals were driving on their first possession, with a pair of first downs that found them at the LA 44. But a dropped pass by Ja’Marr Chase stunted the drive and the Bengals settled for a 56-yard field goal attempt that Evan McPherson pulled wide left.

The Bengals defense was attacked by Matthew Stafford right out of the chute on LA’s first drive. Two of the first three plays were 12-yard completions – to Tyler Higbee and Puka Nacua. Then, facing first-and-10 at the Bengals 24, receiver Tutu Atwell took an end around and outraced the Bengals defense to the end zone. But replay caught Atwell stepping out on the far sideline between the 2 and 3.

The Bengals got a sack from DJ Reader on the next play and held the Rams to a 30-yard Brett Maher field goal.

The Bengals had third-and-one at their own 34 before self-destructing with back-to-back false starts from Joe Mixon and Orlando Brown Jr.

Even on their first scoring drive, capped off by a 49-yard Evan McPherson field goal, the Bengals offense couldn’t get out of its own way. Tyler Boyd committed the team’s third false start in the first 18 minutes.

Another tell-tale of Burrow’s limited mobility came on third down. The Bengals quarterback felt pressure in the pocket. Instead of escaping and rolling out to open space, Burrow just threw the ball incomplete for Tanner Hudson.

Burrow’s mobility was clearly limited in the pocket all night.

The Bengals got their biggest break when Trey Hendrickson and Nick Scott got the pressure on Stafford. The throw over the middle was picked off by a diving Logan Wilson just before the ball hit the turf.

The defense continued to make big plays. Logan Wilson picked off Stafford at the Rams 41. Joe Burrow hit Tee Higgins for 39 yards to the Rams 2 but Higgins was called for pushing off Ahkello Witherspoon and the offensive pass interference pushed the Bengals back to their 49. The drive stalled the Bengals punted.

But on the next Rams possession, Dax Hill broke loose on a safety blitz and crushed Stafford back to the LA 13. The Rams punted and Joe Burrow was able to find Tanner Hudson over the middle for a 26-yard seam route that put the Bengals in field goal range.

After Burrow was sacked, the fans booed the decision to run the clock down but the Bengals managed a 53-yard McPherson field goal and the game was tied, 6-6, at the half.

Boomer Esiason and Chad Johnson received their Ring of Honor jackets and had their numbers and names placed on the East facade of Paycor Stadium.

Starting with the Dax Hill safety blitz of Stafford, the Bengals raised the pressure on Stafford and it paid dividends, with Trey Hendrickson getting to the Rams quarterback twice, one of which was wiped out by a questionable Sam Hubbard facemask.

After Brett Maher’s third field goal, Burrow put together a 75-yard drive in 10 plays, capped by Joe Mixon’s 14-yard run touchdown run and highlighted by a clutch catch by Ja’Marr Chase for 13 yards on third-and-10 from the Rams 44. The ball was behind Chase, who turned and caught the ball.

Four plays later, Mixon ran it in for Cincinnati’s first lead of 2023, 13-9.

On the Rams next possession, Stafford opened with a 46-yard bomb to Van Jefferson and the Rams were immediately threatening. But on the next snap, Mike Hilton got his hands on a Stafford pass and Wilson recorded his second interception.

The Bengals were able to drive downfield to the Rams 30, thanks to the biggest play of the season. Burrow rolled out to his right on a naked bootleg and found Chase for 43 yards.

The drive was capped by McPherson’s third field goal, a 48-yarder that clanked off the right upright and through for a 16-9 lead.

The Bengals appeared ready to drive for insurance when Mixon ran for three yards on fourth-and-1 from the Rams 40. But on the next play, Ahkello Witherspoon jumped over Tyler Boyd for the interception.

But on the next series, the Bengals pass rush showed up again, with Trey Hendrickson and BJ Hill collecting sacks.
