Wednesday evening marked yet another holiday on the NFL calendar as the entirety of the 2024 schedule was released.

As all teams now do, the Patriots released where and when they’ll play in 2024-25 with a far too extravagant, albeit very clever, social media video. New England’s version? A spinoff of Good Will Hunting titled Good Jules Hunting depicting former Pats wide receiver Julian Edelman as an expert in schedule-predicting.

Classic.

Here’s a full look, along with thoughts and predictions, on their upcoming 17 games:

Week 1: @ Bengals — Sunday, Sept. 8, 1 p.m.

New England starts 2024 off with an immediate challenge as Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, one of the better signal callers in football, returns from his 2023 season-ending wrist injury.

It’s also a revenge game for tight end Mike Gesicki — who spent last season with the Patriots before signing with Cincinnati this past March.

Result: L (0-1)

Week 2:  vs. Seahawks — Sunday, Sept. 15, 1 p.m.

Jerod Mayo’s first game as the Patriots head coach in front of the Gillette Stadium crowd comes against another rookie head coach in Seattle’s Mike Macdonald.

After missing out on the 2023-24 playoffs with a Week 17 loss, the Seahawks parted ways with long-time man in charge Pete Carroll. They’re a solid team with a great defensive backfield, but I think New England can get by them for their first post-Belichick win.

Result: W (1-1)

Week 3: @ Jets — Thursday, Sept. 19, 8:15 p.m.

Barring a healthy first two weeks, this will be New England’s first look at the Aaron Rodgers-led New York Jets. It’ll be a challenge on a short week, but I think the Patriots can keep it close as the 40-year-old QB continues to find his groove in the Big Apple.

Result: L (1-2)

Week 4: @ 49ers — Sunday, Sept. 29, 4:05 p.m.

The first true blowout of Jerod Mayo era comes at the hands of the defending NFC Champion 49ers. Despite 10 days rest, the Patriots go cross-country and get smoked by San Francisco and wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, whom New England reportedly called on to trade for this offseason.

Result: L (1-3)

Week 5: vs. Dolphins — Sunday, Oct. 6, 1 p.m.

The Miami Dolphins have been a front-running team over the past several seasons with Mike McDaniel and Tua Tagovailoa manning the offense — starting hot before wiltering a bit down the stretch.

Unfortunately, the Patriots get them early in 2024 and lose their third in a row.

Result: L (1-4)

Week 6: vs. Texans — Sunday, Oct. 13, 1 p.m.

The way general manager Nick Caserio has set up the Houston Texans should be exactly what Eliot Wolf has in mind with the Patriots: hit on your rookie quarterback early and become instant playoff contenders.

Will it happen? We’ll see. For now? We get to see C.J. Stroud play football in Gillette Stadium.

Result: L (1-5)

Week 7: @ Jaguars — Sunday, Oct. 20, 9:30 a.m. (London)

The Patriot’s second consecutive October trip across the pond finds them in London in 2024 against the Jaguars. Notably, this one features the two prominent teams in the Calvin Ridley sweepstakes this past offseason — before the Titans swooped in and landed him.

Result: L (1-6)

Week 8:  vs. Jets — Sunday, Oct. 27, 1 p.m.

With Rodgers now hitting his groove, the Patriots will struggle even more with New York in Week 8.

History, in this context, doesn’t matter. I don’t care that they’re “The Jets”. This team is good, and will beat New England twice in 2024.

Result: L (1-7)

Week 9: @ Titans — Sunday, Nov. 3, 1 p.m.

The Patriots’ second win doesn’t come until their Week 9 matchup against the Titans in Nashville. Without Derrick Henry, I don’t have any confidence in rookie head coach/offensive play caller Brian Callahan or second-year quarterback Will Levis.

Result: W (2-7)

Week 10: @ Bears — Sunday, Nov. 10, 1 p.m.

If the Patriots have handed the reigns over to rookie quarterback Drake Maye by now, we’ll get the 2024 No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams vs. the No. 3 overall pick facing off. Something the NFL needs and will likely be craving.

Result: W (3-7)

Week 11: vs. Rams — Sunday, Nov. 17, 1 p.m.

This one could be another blowout. The Rams are old, but that means they’re experienced. Matthew Stafford (when healthy) is a top five quarterback in football and will be throwing to a healthy Cooper Kupp and a second-year stud in Puka Nacua.

Losing Aaron Donald doesn’t phase ’em, and LA wins big in NE.

Result: L (3-8)

Week 12: @ Dolphins — Sunday, Nov. 24, 1 p.m.

Another matchup against the Dolphins ends in another loss. This one’s in Miami, where New England hasn’t won since 2019.

Result: L (3-9)

Week 13: vs. Colts — Sunday, Dec. 1, 1 p.m.

This one could come back to bite me if Anthony Richardson returns to his early-season form (which could be tough, considering the way he played in 2023 got him injured on what seemed to be every other play), but I think New England can win this one pretty convincingly.

The Patriots head into the bye week with a win — and potentially a significant decision to make.

Result: W (4-9)

Week 14: BYE WEEK

One of the first things I looked for when the schedule came out on Wedensday was when the Patriots bye week will be as with 14 full days off, it could be when they turn the keys over from veteran Jacoby Brissett to Drake Maye.

The downside of this happening now? They’d be giving the rookie just four games to get his feet wet before the 2025 offseason, with two of the matchups against one of the league’s best in the Buffalo Bills.

Week 15: @ Cardinals — Sunday, Dec. 15, 4:25 p.m.

Before we get to the Bills, however, we have the Cardinals.

I’m not sure how this one will play out. What I do know? Kyler Murray is being severely underrated. When healthy, he’s one of the league’s best. Not only can he play backyard football with his lightning-quick speed and running back-like field vision, but the former No. 1 overall pick is also a surgeon in the pocket who can read defenses with the best of them.

Result: W (5-9)

Week 16: @ Bills — Sunday, Dec. 22, 1 p.m.

Not much thought here besides this: Buffalo is really good and New England isn’t. Plus, they’ll be playing for something (i.e. playoff seeding) while New England won’t be.

Bills win in Orchard Park.

Result: L (5-10)

Week 17: vs. Chargers — TBD

The Patriots get a look at Drake Maye comp. Justin Herbert at home in Week 17.

Los Angeles lost their two top receivers from last season in Keenan Allen and Mike Williams, but with Jim Harbaugh running the show there are high hopes for the 2024-25 Chargers.

Result: L (5-11)

Week 18: vs. Bills — TBD

New England closes out 2024-25 with three straight losses, but confidence moving forward. Drake Maye looks good while the offense hits its stride and the defense continues to be solid. Although W’s aren’t showing up on thee schedule, the Patriots leave themselves with high hopes for next season.

Result: L (5-12)

So there you have it, a way-too-early prediction of how this thing goes in 2024 for the Patriots.

When you think of it, as long as there are tangible positives to take away from the campaign, a 5-12 record really isn’t that bad for a team entering a multi-year rebuild. It gives them more draft pick ammunition to continue the path back to hoisting a Lombari.

Now that LVIII is over and the Kansas City are Super Bowl champions (again), it’s time to think about who’s going to win the next one.

Luckily, our exclusive wagering partners over at FanDuel Sportsbook already have odds posted for who will win Super Bowl LIX. Here’s a look at the top 10:

Odds to Win Super Bowl LIX

San Francisco 49ers                +450

Kansas City Chiefs                   +750

Baltimore Ravens                    +900

Detroit Lions                           +1200

Buffalo Bills                             +1200

Dallas Cowboys                      +1500

Cincinnati Bengals                 +1500

Philadelphia Eagles               +1700

Miami Dolphins                      +2000

Houston Texans                     +2500

Green Bay Packers                +2500

Where are the Patriots, you ask?

They’re all the way at the bottom at +15000 (150/1), tied with the Tennessee Titans and New York Giants for second-to-last.

New England has, of course, made wholesale changes to their franchise over the last several months – firing head coach Bill Belichick after 24 seasons and appointing Jerod Mayo as the next man in charge. Since the former linebacker’s hiring, they’ve made the following moves on their coaching staff:

Offense:

Offensive coordinator: Alex Van Pelt

Senior offensive assistant: Ben McAdoo

Quarterbacks: T.C. McCartney

Offensive line: Scott Peters

Asst. offensive line: Robert Kugler

Wide receivers: TBD

Running backs: TBD

Defense:

Defensive coordinator: DeMarcus Covington

Defensive line: Jerry Washington

Inside linebackers: Dont’a Hightower

Outside linebackers: Drew Wilkins

Cornerbacks: Mike Pellegrino

Safeties: Brian Belichick

Special teams:

Special teams coordinator: Jeremy Springer

It was also reported on Sunday by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport that quarterback Mac Jones is a “trade candidate in the coming weeks and most likely will end up elsewhere for the 2024 season.” He added that with the Patriots holding the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, “all indications are they’ll seriously explore taking one of the draft’s top [quarterbacks] as they move into the Jerod Mayo era.”

Many questions remain with New England heading into the 2024 season. The one thing we know? They’re longshots to win next season’s big game and the smart move is to avoid betting them to win it – for now.

We’re slowly approaching kick-off of Super Bowl LVIII, which means it’s time to get your bets in line.

You can, of course, bet on the spread, total, and moneyline for the game over at FanDuel Sportsbook, but they also have a ton of player props, game props, and specials loaded up to make it even more fun to get in on the action.

Here are my three favorites for the big game:

Anytime Touchdown Scorer

The Pick: Travis Kelce EVEN

You think Taylor Swift is traveling all the way from Japan to Las Vegas to not see Travis score a touchdown?!

For as below-average as Kelce was this regular season (tallying under 1,000 receiving yards for the first time since 2015) he’s shown up in the playoffs. The 34-year-old has been incredibly efficient, catching 23 catches on his 27 targets and hauling in all 11 of his targets in the AFC Championship Game.

He also has three touchdowns over their last two games. He notches another on Sunday.

Player to Record a Sack

The Pick: Chris Jones +132

While a) Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones has yet to record a full sack this postseason and b) San Francisco’s offensive line seldom allows them, Sunday feels like his time to shine.

Working with defensive guru and coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, the 6-foot-6 mammoth gets after Brock Purdy at least once.

Triple Crown – Most Passing, Receiving, Rushing Yards

The Pick: Patrick Mahomes/Travis Kelce/Christian McCaffrey +710

This is one of the more intruiging bets FanDuel has to offer for Sunday and, while I’m going with the favorite, the +710 odds feel too good to pass up.

Mahomes is the best quarterback in football and only has to beat out Brock Purdy, Kelce is the best pass catcher in the game and has been a monster so far in the postseason, and Christian McCaffrey is both the best running back in football and the heartbeat of the 49ers offense.

Like I said, too good to pass up.

Storylines

Here’s a look at some big-picture storylines to watch ahead of Sunday’s big game in Sin City:

— Patrick Mahomes is set to start in his fourth Super Bowl since becoming the Chiefs starting quarterback at the start of the 2018 season. He’s 2-1 in his previous three and has thrown five touchdowns to four interceptions.

— 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy, the 262nd pick in the 2022 NFL Draft (a.k.a. Mr. Irrelevant), has been sensational for San Francisco over the course of the last two seasons. The 24-year-old has thrown for 44 touchdowns and just 13 interceptions sine taking over for Jimmy Garoppolo last season, and now gets a chance to play in his first Super Bowl. Labeled a “game manager”, Purdy said of the title on Tuesday: “If you’re saying I’m a game manager and I don’t look flashy in how I do it, that’s your opinion and that’s okay… I think winning at the end of the day is the biggest and most important thing.”

— Sunday’s game features a matchup between two of the game’s best tight ends in Travis Kelce and George Kittle. Kelce fell off a bit this past regular season, failing to surpass 1,000 yards receiving for the first time since 2015, but he continues to dominate in the playoffs. The 34-year-old has hauled in 23 catches on 27 targets this postseason and also put up an 11-for-11 performance in the AFC Championship Game for 116 yards and a touchdown. Kittle, meanwhile, bounced back in 2023 by tallying his first 1,000-yard season since 2019 and continuing to be a mainstay as a blocker in San Francisco’s rushing offense. Both players are crucial to their team’s output.

— Both teams were also incredible defensively this past season. The Chiefs were second in points allowed per game with 17.3, and the 49ers were third with 17.5.

Predictions and Picks

You think I’m picking against Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl?! No chance.

The 49ers put up a fight but in the end, the 28-year-old Mahomes once again puts together a magnificent performance on the game’s biggest state and continues to inch closer to Tom Brady in the “greatest ever” conversation.

Score: Chiefs 34 – 49ers 24

Side: Chiefs +2.5

Total: OVER 47.5

My favorite Super Bowl bet, every year, is who will take home the MVP award. There’s just something about betting on who will be the best player, on the best team, in the biggest game of the season.

On top of the spread, moneyline, point total, and all of the exotics and specials, our exclusive wagering partners at FanDuel Sportsbook also have odds on who will win Super Bowl LVIII MVP. Here’s a look:

Odds to Win Super Bowl LVIII MVP

Patrick Mahomes                                     +150

Brock Purdy                                               +210

Christian McCaffrey                                 +450

Travis Kelce                                              +1400

Isiah Pacheco                                          +2500

Deebo Samuel                                         +2500

Brandon Aiyuk                                         +5000

Rashee Rice                                              +5000

George Kittle                                            +7000

Nick Bosa                                                  +8000

Chris Jones                                             +11000

Fred Warner                                           +14000

Here are my top five picks to take home the award:

5. Chris Jones (+11000)

Defensive lineman Chris Jones has been a monster for the Chiefs since they drafted him in the second round of the 2016 draft. The 6-foot-6, 310-pound wrecking ball has tallied 75.5 sacks over the course of his eight-year career, and notched 10.5 in 2023-24 to go along with his 30 tackles and seven run stuffs.

If for some reason Sunday’s game in a low-scorer and Jones can notch a couple sacks and maybe even an interception (his first since 2018), then the 110-1 odds for him to win the MVP suddenly look pretty good.

4. Christian McCaffrey (+450)

One of the best players in Sunday’s game, Christian McCaffrey is sure to make an impact on the 49ers offense one way or another.

So why is he at No. 4? Below Brock Purdy? Simple. The last time a running back won Super Bowl MVP was back in 1998 when the Broncos beat the Packers in Super Bowl XXXII. It’s not common, but if anyone’s going to do it it’s McCaffrey.

3. Brock Purdy (+210)

Of the 25 players that have won Super Bowl MVP since Terrell Davis did so as a running back in 1998, 16 of them have been quarterbacks.

No matter how Sunday’s game goes, if the 49ers win it then it’s likely if not certain that Brock Purdy will win the award. If you think San Francisco will come out on top like the sportsbooks do (2.5-point favorites according to FanDuel), then it may be worth sprinkling their Mr. Irrelevant quarterback to win MVP at 2/1 as well.

2. Travis Kelce (+1400)

While it’s fair to say that Travis Kelce fell off a bit this regular season is a fair assessment given it was his first season under 1,000 yards receiving since 2015, the fact is: he continues to dominate in the playoffs.

The 34-year-old tight end has been incredibly efficient in the postseason, catching 23 catches on his 27 targets and hauling in all 11 of his AFC Championship Game targets last week for 116 yards and a touchdown.

If it doesn’t go to a quarterback, often time the Super Bowl MVP award goes to their top pass catcher. Kelce has a chance on Sunday.

1. Patrick Mahomes (+150)

Is there much to even explain here?

The best player in the game is my pick to win the Super Bowl MVP on Sunday. Why? Because it’s impossible to bet against the Chiefs to win the contest with him at the helm, and it’s far more likely than not that he’ll be the reason they come out victorious.

Mahomes at plus-money is too good of value to pass up.

The 49ers and Chiefs have officially touched down in Las Vegas as we’re now under a week away from Super Bowl LVIII’s kickoff from Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium on Sunday.

You can, of course, bet on the spread, total, and moneyline for the game over at FanDuel Sportsbook, but they also have a ton of player props, game props, and weekend specials loaded up to make it even more fun to get in on the action.

Here’s a look:

First Offensive Play of Game to Result in a Safety +50000

Here are my three favorites:

Christian McCaffrey to Score 1+ Rushing TD & 1+ Receiving TD +750

While Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo is likely to draw up a sensational game plan against the high-flying 49ers offense, Christian McCaffrey may be the one player in the NFL who can stress it.

He scored 21 touchdowns (14 rushing, 7 receiving) in the regular season and has four (all rushing) thus far in the postseason. I like the +750 odds for him to find paydirt twice, once on the ground and once through the air, on Sunday.

Travis Kelce to Catch Every Target +950

Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has been incredibly efficient in the postseason, catching 23 catches on his 27 targets (including an 11-for-11 performance in the AFC Championship).

He and Mahomes keep it rolling on Sunday. I love +950 odds for the dynamic duo to bat 1.000.

75+ Yard Receiving TD to be Scored +2000

I needed a long shot, so both San Francisco and Kansas City’s offenses have the ability to pop off at any time. It’s the Super Bowl. Both play-callers should have a trick or two up their sleeve that can result in a long score.

For the second year in a row, FanDuel Sportsbook and Rob Gronkowski are back with the Kick of Destiny.

Last season, prior to kick-off of Super Bowl LVII, the former Patriots tight end attempted a 25-yard field goal as a way to give users a share of $10 million in bonus bets.

Here’s a look at last year’s kick:

He missed!

This year, Gronk will give it a shot once again. Here’s how it’ll work, per FanDuel:

  1. Make your pick on if you think Gronk will make or miss the 15-yard field goal
  2. Tune in LIVE before the game on Super Bowl Sunday
  3. Win a share of $10,000,000 in Bonus Bets if you’re right!
  4. If you made the right pick, check back Monday (2/12) to see what you’ve got!

Click here to make your pick.

The question locks at 5:45 p.m. EST on Super Bowl Sunday, February 11th. Up until then, you can edit your pick at any time.

Ahead of Sunday’s second annual Kick of Destiny, Gronkowski has been practicing and even hit a 40-yarder in one of his sessions:

“There’s something I gotta tell you,” he told Kay Adams on her Up and Adams show, “I tried it six times in a row. I missed the first five and then the sixth one I hit right down the middle. But practice makes perfect and that’s why I keep going. I had the resilience. I keep missing but it’s all right. I keep trying, and I finally got it down.”

Former Patriots kicker and Super Bowl legend Adam Vinatieri also made an appearance on Adams’ show with Gronkowski and gave him some advice on how to bounce back from last year’s miss:

“Well honestly, you have to try and forget about it,” he said. “The problem for you is, you’ve had a whole year to think about it, right? When you miss one in a normal regular season game you’ve got seven days and you’re back on the field. Or even if you miss one on the beginning of the game you just try to wipe it out of your mind and really focus in on your fundamentals… Dude, I watched you all last year. I watched you warm up, watched you hit a bunch of ’em. I’m betting, I’m putting my money that you’re gonna make this one this year, for sure.”

The Pick: So what’s our pick? He makes it, of course! Go get your share of $10 million in bonus bets.

Following Friday night’s NHL All-Star Skill Competition (which we wrote about and gave predictions for here on CLNSMedia.com), is the All-Star game on Saturday.

The NHL’s All-Star Game is actually three games: a tournament-style, three-on-three event. This year, Tampa Bay’s Auston Matthews, Edomonton’s Connor McDavid, Colorado’s Nathan MacKinnon, and Vancouver’s Quinn Hughes will serve as team captains.

Here are the odds for each of their teams to win the tournament, according to FanDuel Sportsbook:

2024 All-Star Games – Outright Winner

Team Matthews                         +250

Team Hughes                            +265

Team MacKinnon                     +280

Team McDavid                          +285

Team MacKinnon and Team McDavid will faceoff at 3 p.m. with Team Hughes and Team Matthews squaring off at 4 p.m. The winners will then play in the championship.

Here’s a look at the rosters that they drafted on Friday night:

Team Matthews

Auston Matthews F Toronto Maple Leafs
Morgan Rielly D Toronto Maple Leafs
William Nylander F Toronto Maple Leafs
Mitch Marner F Toronto Maple Leafs
Jake Oettinger G Dallas Stars
Clayton Keller F Arizona Coyotes
Mathew Barzal F New York Islanders
Igor Shesterkin G New York Rangers
Filip Forsberg F Nashville Predators
Alex DeBrincat F Detroit Red Wings
Vincent Trocheck F New York Rangers

Team McDavid

Connor McDavid F Edmonton Oilers
Leon Draisaitl F Edmonton Oilers
Connor Hellebuyck G Winnipeg Jets
David Pastrnak F Boston Bruins
Rasmus Dahlin D Buffalo Sabres
Robert Thomas F St. Louis Blues
Sam Reinhart F Florida Panthers
Sergei Bobrovsky G Florida Panthers
Boone Jenner F Columbus Blue Jackets
Nick Suzuki F Montreal Canadiens
Tomas Hertl F San Jose Sharks

Team MacKinnon

Nathan MacKinnon F Colorado Avalanche
Cale Makar D Colorado Avalanche
Sidney Crosby F Pittsburgh Penguins
Alexandar Georgiev G Colorado Avalanche
Kirill Kaprizov F Minnesota Wild
Sebastian Aho F Carolina Hurricanes
Tom Wilson F Washington Capitals
Jeremy Swayman G Boston Bruins
Travis Konecny F Philadelphia Flyers
Elias Lindholm F Vancouver Canucks
Oliver Bjorkstrand F Seattle Kraken

Team Hughes

Quinn Hughes D Vancouver Canucks
Elias Pettersson F Vancouver Canucks
Nikita Kucherov F Tampa Bay Lightning
Thatcher Demko G Vancouver Canucks
Kyle Connor F Winnipeg Jets
Brady Tkachuk F Ottawa Senators
Jesper Bratt F New Jersey Devils
Cam Talbot G Los Angeles Kings
Brock Boeser F Vancouver Canucks
J.T Miller F Vancouver Canucks
Frank Vatrano F Anaheim Ducks

So who wins the tournament? I’m going with the “longshot” Team McDavid. They have the best player in hockey in McDavid, his right-hand man in Leon Draisaitl, Boston’s own David Pastrnak, the odds-on favorite to win the Vezina Trophy in goalie Connor Hellebuyck. That’s a wagon.

The Pick: Team McDavid +285

So who will win the MVP? Here are FanDuel’s odds for that:

2024 All-Star Tournament MVP

Auston Matthews                     +750

Nathan MacKinnon               +1000

Connor McDavid                    +1000

William Nylander                   +1000

David Pastrnak                       +1200

Leon Draisaitl                         +1200

Nikita Kucherov                     +1200

Elias Pettersson                      +1200

Mitch Marner                          +1700

Sidney Crosby                         +2000

Cale Makar                              +2000

I’m going with Pasta here. He’s (hopefully) going to be on the winning team, and perhaps he nets a goal or two on the way. It would be his second MVP award since 2020.

The Pick: David Pastrnak +1200

The Boston Bruins and the NHL are officially on their All-Star break this weekend with the yearly event and festivities taking place at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.

The tournament itself, a format that’s been in place since 2016, will be played on Saturday but first, the all-new revamped Skill Challenge will take place on Friday night.

Each of the 12 NHLers participating will compete in four of the following six events, earning points for their respective finish:

1. Fastest skater

2. Hardest shot

3. Stickhandling

4. One-timers

5. Passing challenge

6. Accuracy shooting

The top eight point scorers will then participate in a shootout, featuring all eight All-Star goalies, and then the top six will compete in an obstacle course, with the previous seven events included to crown a winner.

Wanna bet on it? You can at FanDuel Sportsbook! Here are the odds, with a pick for each, for some of the events and the outright winner on Friday night:

2024 NHL Accuracy Shooting Winner

David Pastrnak                                    +600

Mathew Barzal                                      +230

Cale Makar                                             +450

William Nylander                              +1000

Quinn Hughes                                     +1000

The Pick: This one’s easy, going with the best player in the sport Connor McDavid at +105.

2024 NHL Hardest Shot Winner

Elias Pettersson                                   +280

Cale Makar                                            +280

Nikita Kucherov                        +850

Nathan MacKinnon                  +850

David Pastrnak                          +850

Mathew Barzal                           +850

Leon Draisaitl                             +850

William Nylander                   +1100

The Pick: For all the marbles, I’m taking Cale Makar for this one too at +800 odds.
